Friends of Cambridge University Library

A meeting of the Friends of Cambridge University Library will be held on Wednesday, 4 November, at 5.30 p.m., in the Morison Room, University Library, West Road, at which Mr Clive Simmonds will give a talk entitled Swinburne in the Library. All are welcome. Friends: £2.50; others: £3.50 (junior members of the University of Cambridge: free). Tea will be served from 5 p.m.

Philosophical Society

HONORARY FELLOWS PRIZE LECTURE, 2009

The Cambridge Philosophical Society’s Honorary Fellows Prize Lecture for 2009 will be given by Professor Martin Rees, PRS, on Wednesday, 4 November, at 5.30 p.m., in the Lady Mitchell Hall, Sidgwick Site. All who are interested are invited.

A complimentary drinks reception for all attendees will take place after the lecture in the Clough Hall, Newnham College.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Annual General Meeting of the Society was held on Monday, 19 October 2009, in the Arts School, Bene’t Street, at 4.30 p.m.

Professor A. W. Cuthbert, President, was in the Chair.

1. The Treasurer presented the audited accounts for the period January to December 2008, which were adopted.

2. The following Officers and Members of Council were elected for the year 2010:

President: Professor A. G. Smith

Treasurer: Dr G. A. Reid

Vice-Presidents: Professor A. W. Cuthbert, Professor J. M. E. Hyland, Professor J. Mollon

Secretaries: Dr C. Y. Barlow (Physical), Professor C. J. Howe (Biological), Professor P. M. H. Wilson (Mathematical)

Ordinary Members of Council who continue: Professor H. Ahmed, Dr A. F. Blackwell, Dr R. Cameron, Professor T. M. Cox, Professor D. Frenkel, Professor A. Howie, Professor C. L.-H. Huang, Dr D. B. Norman, Dr D. Summers, Dr D. I. Wilson, Professor J. Woodhouse

New Ordinary Member of Council 2010: Professor T. J. Pedley

3. Twenty-two Fellows were elected and two Fellows were re-elected. It was reported that since the last Annual General Meeting ten Fellows had died and seven had resigned and one hundred and ninety-four were presumed resigned.

4. Messrs Peters Elworthy & Moore were appointed to act as Auditors for the year 2010.
