Graces

Graces submitted to the Regent House on 21 October 2009

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 30 October 2009.

1. That the first sentence of the regulation for review of decisions of the Applications Committee be amended so as to read:1

The Council shall establish a procedure for the review of decisions taken by it in respect of individuals in exercise of its powers in respect of allowances of terms under the regulations for the precincts of the University and residence and its powers under the regulations for allowances to candidates for examinations.

2. That the recommendations in paragraph 5 of the Report of the General Board, dated 10 July 2009, on the Directorship of the Museum of Zoology (Reporter, 2008–09, p. 974) be approved.

3. That the recommendations in paragraph 4 of the Report of the General Board, dated 10 July 2009, on the re-establishment of the Professorship of Molecular Cell Biology (Reporter, 2008–09, p. 975) be approved.

4. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 10 July 2009, on the re-establishment of the Professorship of Transfusion Medicine (Reporter, 2008–09, p. 975) be approved.

5. That the recommendations in paragraph 11 of the Report of the Council, dated 20 July 2009, on a new building for the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences and the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities on the Sidgwick Avenue Site (Reporter, 2008–09, p. 1008) be approved.

6. That the recommendations in paragraph 7 of the Joint Report of the Council and the General Board, dated 20 July 2009 and 8 July 2009, on the requirements for the B.A. Degree by Honours (Reporter, 2008–09, p. 1010) be approved.

Graces to be submitted to the Regent House at a Congregation on 24 October 2009

The Council has sanctioned the submission of the following Graces to the Regent House at a Congregation to be held on 24 October 2009:

That the following persons be admitted to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by incorporation:

1. Timothy Faulkner Potts, Fellow of Clare College and Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Doctor of Philosophy of the University of Oxford (1988).

2. William Clement McGrew, Fellow of Corpus Christi College and Professor of Evolutionary Primatology in the Department of Biological Anthropology, Doctor of Philosophy of the University of Oxford (1970).

3. Ruth Lisa Chadwick Charles, of Newnham College, Computer Officer in the University Computing Service, Doctor of Philosophy of the University of Oxford (1996).

That the following persons be admitted to the degree of Master of Arts under the provisions of Statute B, III, 6:

5. Peter Jonathan Bennett, Fellow of Wolfson College.

10. Ian James Brown, Advisory Officer in the Estate Management and Building Service.

11. Heather Claire Elizabeth Davis, Assistant Treasurer in the Finance Division of the University Offices.
