The General Board has agreed to propose the establishment for a single tenure of an EDSAC Professorship of Computer Science from 1 October 2026, assigned to the Department of Computer Science and Technology. The salary costs of the Professorship will be fully funded by the income from an endowment fund, following a donation (see the Vice‑Chancellor’s Notice, p. 680). The Chair of the Resource Management Committee approved the funding arrangements for the Professorship for a single tenure on 22 June 2026.
The new Professorship will increase the Department’s excellent track record of attracting external funding from the research councils and industry. The General Board has agreed, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Computer Science and Technology and the Council of the School of Technology, that the candidature shall be open to all persons with experience in the general field of the title of the office.
The Council is submitting a Grace (Grace 6, p. 693) for the approval of the establishment of the Professorship for a single tenure.
The General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Human, Social and Political Science and the Council of the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences, has agreed to propose the establishment of a Professorship of Material Culture for a single tenure from 1 October 2027, assigned to the Department of Social Anthropology. There will be a joint recruitment exercise to appoint a candidate to the Professorship and the Directorship of the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. The full salary costs of the Professorship will be met from recurrent resources available to the School. The Chair of the Resource Management Committee approved the funding arrangements for the Professorship on 22 June 2026.
The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (MAA) is heavily research active and has a strong international standing amongst other European museums for its sustained commitment to acknowledging indigenous perspectives and its commitment to collaborations in countries throughout Africa, Asia, South and Central America and Oceania (a.k.a. the Global South). Strong academic leadership of the MAA is needed against the backdrop of an increasingly challenging funding landscape. The Professor will be an ambassador for the institution and will provide strategic and diplomatic leadership in engagement with communities, professionals and government representatives from across the Global South, sometimes in relation to high-profile, contested collections and heritage issues. The Professor will also contribute to the organisation and advocacy of the University of Cambridge museums and collections and may contribute to sector engagement and leadership.
The Professor will be expected to lead on fundraising initiatives for the institution, through bids to sector agencies and charities and through work with the University’s Development and Alumni Relations team towards securing major gifts.

By Grace 3 of 8 August 2007, the Professorship of Veterinary Science was retitled the Professorship of Comparative Pathology. The General Board now recommends that the title of the Professorship is changed back to the Professorship of Veterinary Science from 1 October 2026, on the retirement of the current holder of the Professorship. This is so that the recruitment to the Professorship (and to the Headship of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, as part of a jointly run exercise) attracts the widest possible pool of world-class candidates.
The Council is submitting a Grace (Grace 8, p. 693) to rename the Professorship of Comparative Pathology.
The Board of Electors to the Frank Ramsey Professorship of Economics has reported to the General Board that it has been unable to make an election to this Professorship. Under the provisions of Special Ordinance C (vii) B. 16(a)(ii) (Statutes and Ordinances, 2024, p. 81, as amended by Grace 1 of 4 February 2026), the Board has discontinued the Professorship until 31 August 2026.
