College Research Fellowships, 2011–12

Queens’ College

ADVANCED RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN CLASSICS

Applications are invited for an Advanced Research Fellowship in Classics, tenable for three years from 1 October 2011, with the possibility of extension for a further year.

The appointment is open to men and women from any university, irrespective of age. Former or current Junior Research Fellows are welcome to apply. This Research Fellowship is advanced in that, apart from engaging in research, teaching and the direction of studies are also conditions of tenure. It is not proposed that this Fellowship carries membership of the Governing Body, though it is expected that the Fellow will attend College Meetings as an observer.

The successful candidate will have an excellent record of research in his or her chosen subject and the potential to pursue that research at the highest level, and will also have relevant teaching experience. He or she will be appointed Director of Studies in Classics, with responsibility for organizing the teaching of Classics in Queens’ College, and will be required to provide six hours of undergraduate teaching a week during Term (120 hours a year). Candidates may be specialists in any branch of Classical Studies, but it is expected that the successful candidate will be able to undertake some language teaching in both Greek and Latin. The stipend will commence at a point between £22,765 and £24,887, depending upon experience. Applicants are requested to complete an online application form, to be obtained from the College website, where further particulars may also be found: http://www.queens.cam.ac.uk/general-information/vacancies/academic-vacancies.

A complete application will include the following items in a single envelope: the online application form itself; a current curriculum vitae including a full list of publications; three signed references in sealed envelopes, countersigned across the seal; and a statement of current research on one side of A4 paper.

The closing date for applications to be received by the College is 12 p.m. on Friday, 17 December 2010.
