University Office

University Lecturer in Philosophy of Science in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science

The Department of History and Philosophy of Science intends to appoint a University Lecturer in Philosophy of Science. Responsibilities include contributing to all aspects of undergraduate teaching and supervising graduate students, in addition to taking a prominent part in leading research in the field in the Department and taking on administrative responsibilities.

Short-listed candidates will be informed in late March and will be invited to the Department to present seminar papers and for interview. The successful candidate will be expected to take up the position on or before 1 October 2010. Appointments will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter, subject to satisfactory performance. The salary will be in the range of £36,715 to £46,510 a year.

Election

Architecture. Spencer Thomas de Grey, CBE, M.A., CHU, RA, RIBA, FRSA, elected Visiting Professor of Architecture from 6 January 2010 until 30 September 2011.

University Lecturers

Medicine. Dr Thomas Kreig, Priv.Doz. Dr. med. habil., Greifswald, appointed from 1 October 2009 until the retiring age and subject to a probationary period of five years.

Public Health and Primary Care. Nadeem Sarwar, M.Phil., Ph.D., Q, M.Pharm., Aberdeen, MRPharmS, appointed from 1 October 2009 until the retiring age and subject to a probationary period of five years.

Assistant Director of Studies

Clinical Medicine. Dr Jennifer Schram, M.B., B.S., St Thomas’ London, appointed from 1 October 2009 until 30 September 2012 and subject to a probationary period of one year.

Associate Dean

Clinical Medicine. Dr John David Alistair Clark, M.B., Ch.B., Glasgow, FRCP, appointed from 1 April 2009 until 31 March 2014 and subject to a probationary period of one year.

Senior Technical Officer

Biological Sciences. Mr Mark John Elsdon appointed from 1 November 2008 until the retiring age and subject to a probationary period of nine months.

Advisory Officer

Estate Management and Building Service. Mr Roger Ling appointed from 1 November 2009 until the retiring age.

Affiliated Lecturers

Computer Laboratory. Dr Richard Charles Jennings and Mr Jack Lang, EM, have been granted the title of Affiliated Lecturer from 1 October 2009 for a further two years.
