The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that she has accepted with gratitude a benefaction of $28m USD from Cambridge in America following a donation from Ms K. Lisa Yang, of which $10m USD is to be used to set up a K. Lisa Yang Centre for Autism Research, and the remainder held as endowment to advance research in the field of autism by supporting the Centre’s work ($10m USD), and to advance education for the benefit of the public by supporting at least three K. Lisa Yang Fellowships in autism research ($8m USD). The Council is submitting Graces (Graces 1 and 2, p. 649) to establish two endowment funds.
At its meeting on 15 July 2024, the Council approved a non-consolidated, pensionable payment equivalent to 2.5% of basic pay to employees on University terms and conditions paid at or below point 48 on the single salary spine (Reporter, 6751, 2024–25, p. 856). The Council agreed that this would take effect from 1 August 2024 and would last until the outcome of the pay review was known. The Council has now clarified that at the point when the current 2.5% interim payment being paid to employees on point 48 or below is removed, the pay of employees in receipt of the payment will not reduce.
The Employment Rights Act 2025 requires employers to keep adequate records of all staff annual leave and annual leave pay.
To comply with this legislation the University requires all staff (academic, research and professional services staff) to record their annual leave. Employers who do not comply with the requirements may be liable to unlimited fines or other enforcement action.
All institutions should already operate processes to record annual leave for some staff and these processes will remain unchanged. Details of annual leave entitlement are included in individuals’ contractual arrangements and are also confirmed for each staff category on the HR website at: https://www.hr.admin.cam.ac.uk/.
Further support is available from the relevant HR Business Partnering team.
The Council approved the Annual Reports and Financial Statements as received on 24 November 2025. They were signed by the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Chair of the Council and the Chief Financial Officer.
The Reports and Financial Statements for the year ended 31 July 2025 are now available on the Reporter website at: https://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/reporter/2025-26/weekly/6833/Annual_Reports_Financial_Statements-2025.pdf. They will be included in the items listed for the first Discussion of the 2026–27 academic year on Tuesday, 6 October 2026.
The Council is required to publish each year a remuneration report setting out the principles behind the University’s approach to the remuneration of its staff, in line with the guidance provided by the Committee of University Chairs and the Office for Students. The remuneration report for 2024–25 was approved by the Remuneration Committee and the Council on 24 November 2025 and is available on the Reporter website at: https://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/reporter/2025-26/weekly/6833/Annual_remuneration_report-2024-25.pdf. The report also provides remuneration data which should be read in parallel with that provided in the Notes to the Financial Statements section (see Note 14 on Staff costs).
