Regulations for examinations

Computer Science Tripos, Part II

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 300)

With effect from 1 October 2019

The General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Computer Science and Technology, has approved an amendment to the regulations for Part II of the Computer Science Tripos so as to clarify the content included in the length of the dissertation, and to amend the submission date to the fourth Friday before the day of the examination.

Regulation 17.

By amending the second sentence of the regulation so as to read:

The main body of the dissertation, running from the first page of the introduction until the last page of the conclusions, shall not exceed 40 pages nor exceed 12,000 words in length, and shall be submitted by the candidate to the Head of the Department in a format as prescribed by her or him so as to arrive not later than 12 noon on the fourth Friday before the first day of the examination.

Engineering Tripos, Part IIb

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 321)

With effect from 1 October 2019

The General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Engineering, has approved an amendment to the regulations for Part IIb of the Engineering Tripos so as to enable students to transfer into Part IIb of the Tripos from Part IIa of the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos.

Regulation 24.

By adding the following sentence to the end of the regulation:

   A student who has obtained honours in Part IIa of the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos may be a candidate for honours in Part IIb of the Engineering Tripos, provided that the Faculty Board is satisfied that it is in the student’s best interests and that provisos (a)–(c) above have been met.

Crime and Thriller Writing for the M.St. Degree

With effect from 1 October 2019

The General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of English, has approved Crime and Thriller Writing as a subject for the degree of Master of Studies with effect from 1 October 2019. Special Regulations for the examination in the subject have been approved as follows:

Crime and Thriller Writing

1. The scheme of examination for the course of study in Crime and Thriller Writing, for the degree of Master of Studies shall consist of:

(a)a portfolio of creative essays or compositions, totaling 5,000 words, and two critical essays of up to 5,000 words each, on a topic to be approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of English;

(b)a thesis in the form of a portfolio of creative and critical writing on a subject approved by the Degree Committee, comprising a 5,000-word critical essay (including footnotes and appendices), and 20,000 words of creative prose.

2. At the discretion of the Examiners the examination may include an oral examination on one or more of the pieces of work submitted by the candidate under 1(a) and (b).

3. The Examiners may recommend to the Degree Committee that it recommends to the Strategic Committee of the Institute of Continuing Education the award of the Postgraduate Certificate to a candidate who has satisfactorily completed the requirements specified in Regulation 1(a) and who does not complete, or fails to reach the required standard, in the requirements set out under Regulation 1(b).

Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Business

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 598)

With effect from 1 October 2018

The General Board, on the recommendation of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, has approved amendments to the regulations for this award as follows:

By replacing references to 'the Degree Committee' with 'the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership' in both Regulations 2(a) and (b).

And by removing the phrase '(a case review and a strategy paper)' in Regulation 2(a).

The General Board is satisfied that no candidate's preparation for the examination in 2019 will be adversely affected.

Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Value Chains

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 598)

The General Board, on the recommendation of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, has approved amendments to the regulations for this award as follows:

With effect from 1 October 2018

By replacing references to 'the Degree Committee' with 'the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership' in both Regulations 2(a) and (b).

With effect from 1 October 2019

By adding a footnote suspending this award for the 2019–20 academical year.

The General Board is satisfied that no candidate's preparation for the examination in 2019 will be adversely affected.
