Graces

Graces submitted to the Regent House on 15 February 2012

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 24 February 2012.

1. That Professor Sir John Baker, of St Catharine’s College, be appointed one of the Septemviri to serve for two years from 1 January 2012.

2. That Professor Dame Sandra Dawson, of Sidney Sussex College, be appointed one of the Septemviri to serve for two years from 1 January 2012.

3. That Professor Dame Jean Thomas, Master of St Catharine’s College, be appointed one of the Septemviri to serve for two years from 1 January 2012.

4. That the Annual Report of the Council for the academical year 2010–11, dated 21 November 2011, (Reporter, 2011–12, p. 216) be approved.1

5. That the recommendations in paragraph 7 of the Joint Report of the Council and the General Board, dated 28 November 2011 and 2 November 2011, on the provision of sites and buildings regulations (Reporter, 2011–12, p. 269) be approved.2

6. That the recommendations in paragraph 5 of the Report of the General Board, dated 23 December 2011, on the establishment of a Chong Hua Professorship of Chinese Development (Reporter, 2011–12, p. 389) be approved.

7. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 11 January 2012, on the establishment of a Florence Nightingale Foundation Professorship of Clinical Nursing Research (Reporter, 2011–12, p. 390) be approved.

8. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 11 January 2012, on the establishment of a Professorship of Statistics (Reporter, 2011–12, p. 391) be approved.

9. That the recommendations in paragraph 3 of the Report of the General Board, dated 11 January 2012, on future arrangements for the Interdisciplinary Centres in the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences (Reporter, 2011–12, p. 392) be approved.

10. That the recommendations in paragraph 11 of the Joint Report by the Council and the General Board, dated 23 January 2012 and 11 January 2012, on student membership of the two bodies (Reporter, 2011–12, p. 405) be approved.

11. That Regulations 2 and 3 for the Sidney Allen Prize be amended so as to read:3

The Prize shall be awarded annually by, jointly, the Chairmen of Examiners for the Linguistics Tripos, and for Part II of the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos, for a distinguished overall performance in Linguistics by a candidate for any Part II examination for the Linguistics Tripos or the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos.

3. To be eligible for consideration for the Prize a candidate shall have offered for examination at Part II at least three papers available in the Linguistics Tripos at Part IIa or Part IIb, or the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos at Part II relating to the study of language in general, or the study of the history and structure of specific languages or families of languages. The Faculty Board of Modern and Medieval Languages shall announce from time to time the papers in the Triposes designated as meeting the requirements for the Prize.

Graces to be submitted to the Regent House at a Congregation on 18 February 2012

The Council has sanctioned the submission of the following Graces to the Regent House at a Congregation to be held on 18 February 2012:

That the following person be admitted to the degree of Master of Arts by incorporation:
