College Research Fellowships, 2011–12

Girton College

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN ARTS, HUMANITIES, AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Applications are invited for a Non-stipendiary Research Fellowship, to be held in any arts, humanities, and social sciences subject, for the academic year 2011–12 and tenable for three years. The Fellowship is open to graduates of any university with no age limit, but is intended to support those at an early stage in their academic careers, and will normally be awarded to a candidate who has recently completed a Ph.D. Degree or is close to completion. The competition involves assessment of candidates’ submitted work and interview. Those interested should note that the standard needed to progress to the later stages of the competition is extremely high. Overseas candidates should also note that the College cannot be responsible for payment of airfares should they be short-listed for interview.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate that they have secured an external source of funding for the duration of the Fellowship.

Benefits of the non-stipendiary position include residence at moderate charge or a living-out allowance of £2,100 a year, and free Commons (i.e. meals) except when the College kitchens are closed. Research expenses up to a total of £2,500 over the three years of the Fellowship may be paid. The post-holder is required to provide four hours’ supervision teaching per week during the twenty weeks of the teaching year; in some circumstances this requirement may be reduced during the first year.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 13 May 2011. Short-listed candidates will be invited to submit work at the end of May, and final interviews will take place on Tuesday, 5 July 2011.

Further particulars and application forms are available from the Administrator to the Research Fellowship in Arts Committee, Girton College, Cambridge, CB3 0JG (email jrfs@girton.cam.ac.uk), or can be downloaded from the Girton College website (http://www.girton.cam.ac.uk/vacancies/research). Please also note that applications must be submitted by post only.
