Form and Conduct of Examinations, 2010–11

Notices by Faculty Boards, or other bodies concerned, of changes to the form and conduct of certain examinations to be held in 2010–11, by comparison with those examinations in 2010, are published below. Complete details of the form and conduct of all examinations are available from the Faculties or Departments concerned.

Architecture Tripos, Parts Ia and Ib (correction), 2011

Part Ia

The Faculty Board of Architecture and History of Art give notice that, with effect from the examinations to be held in 2011, the form of the examination for the following paper for Part Ia of the Architecture Tripos will be changed as follows:

Paper 4. Fundamental principles of structural design

The examination will consist of a three-hour written paper. Candidates will be required to answer three questions from a choice of at least six. Answers are expected to take the form of illustrated essays, where engineering calculation may be used but is not essential.

Part Ib

The Notice published on 8 December 2010 (Reporter, p. 295) has been corrected: Paper 1 is to be examined by essays, and Paper 2 by written examination. The correct form of the examination for these two papers is as follows:

Paper 1. Essays on the history and theory of architecture, urbanism, and design

Paper 2. The history and theory of architecture, urbanism, and design

Courses of lectures are given for these papers during the Michaelmas and Lent Terms: a minimum of six different courses will be offered. For Paper 1, candidates will be required to submit three essays of 2,000 words, each of which should be on a topic relating to one of the lecture courses. These three essays will be marked by an Examiner or Assessor and the marks will be averaged and recorded as the mark for Paper 1. For Paper 2, candidates will be required to sit a three-hour written examination and answer three questions relating to three lecture courses for which they have not submitted an essay in Paper 1.

All other papers remain unchanged. Full details of the examination can be obtained from the Faculty Office.

Final M.B. Examination, Part II

The Faculty Board of Clinical Medicine give notice that with effect from the 2011 examinations, the Part II Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) in Clinical Paediatrics and Clinical Obstetrics and Gynaecology will be up to two and a half hours long. The examinations will consist of up to ten stations of 10–15 minutes testing core clinical skills and physical examination skills using real patients, simulated patients, and video.
