Dixie Professorship of Ecclesiastical History: Notice

Teaching Associate in the Modern Economic and Social History of Britain in the Faculty of History

Applications are invited for a one-year teaching position in the Faculty of History to replace Dr Simon Szreter during the period of his research leave on a Wellcome Trust Strategic Award. The post will extend from 1 October 2010 until 30 September 2011. Applications are welcomed from scholars working in all areas of Modern British Economic and Social History since c.1870. The post-holder will also be involved in the training and supervision of graduate students, and be expected to contribute fully to the examination and administration of the above papers. The salary will be in the range of £27,319 to £34,607 a year.

Temporary Lectureship in the History of Art (half-time) in the Department of History of Art

The Department of History of Art is seeking to appoint a half-time unestablished University Lecturer from 1 October 2010 to 30 September 2015. The post-holder will contribute to the teaching of the undergraduate Tripos in the History of Art, including provision of a Special Subject paper on an aspect of modern art. Preference may be given to candidates whose teaching interests include the post-1945 period. Other duties will include contributions to core undergraduate and M.Phil. courses, active research, and some administrative tasks.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. Degree in a relevant subject, or be able to demonstrate that they will have had their Ph.D. examined before taking up appointment.

Temporary Lectureship in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages

Applications are invited for the post of Temporary Lecturer in Early Modern Studies in French, ideally with a particular interest in the sixteenth century.

The appointee will be expected to contribute to teaching and administration within the Department, undertaking language teaching when necessary, giving lectures in the following undergraduate courses: FR 6, French Literature, Thought, and History from 1510 to 1622 and FR 12, Early Modern Thought, acting as a convenor for one or both of these papers, supervising M.Phil. work in relevant fields, and assisting in Tripos examinations. The post-holder may also be expected to teach the full range of texts set for the first-year literature paper, if he or she chooses to join a College, and to offer specialist language teaching for second and final-year students.

The successful applicant will be required to hold a Ph.D. Degree and to specialize in one of the areas in which he or she will be lecturing. The appointee will have a strong profile, both in terms of research and publications, and the promise of making an outstanding contribution to the Department of French. He or she will have native or excellent non-native command of French and English.

Candidates are also invited to submit up to two recent examples of their work for consideration by the Committee, or, in the case of work which has been published, to draw the Committee’s attention to items of special relevance to their application. Shortlisted candidates for the post will be notified at the beginning of June 2010 and will also be asked to give a short presentation of twenty minutes to a mixed group of graduate students and members of the Department prior to the interview itself.

The salary will be in the range of £36,715 to £46,510 a year. The employment will begin on 1 October 2010 in order to provide temporary replacement cover in respect of the research leave of a member of the Department of French. This is a fixed-term post and the period of replacement cover will be until 30 September 2012, subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period of one year.

Munby Fellowship in Bibliography, 2011–12: Notice

The Library Syndicate invite applications for the Munby Fellowship in Bibliography, tenable for the academical year 1 October 2011 to 30 September 2012.

The Munby Fellow will be free to pursue bibliographical research of her or his own choosing. It is, however, expected that the Fellow’s research will be, at least in part, based directly or indirectly on the collections of the University and Colleges of Cambridge and likely to be of benefit, in the broadest sense, to scholars using those collections in the future. The Fellow will have no Departmental or other staff duties and responsibilities.

The Fellowship is open to graduates in any discipline of any university and nationality. Preference will be give to scholars at post-doctoral or an equivalent level. The stipend will be £25,751.

A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Darwin College will normally be available to the successful candidate, if not already a Fellow of a Cambridge College. Fellows in these categories are members of the Governing Body of the College and may take meals in the College without charge.
