Notice by the University Bellringer

On Tuesday, 14 November 2023, the following rang the bells of Great St Mary’s, the University Church, for the Birthday of His Majesty King Charles III.

The ringing included touches of Cambridge Major and Stedman Triples.

This is the first time that the bells have been rung for the birthday of Charles III as King. The earliest known record1 of the bells of Great St Mary’s being rung for the birthday of our sovereign was in 1662 following the restoration to the throne of His Late Majesty King Charles II. His birthday and Restoration Day were both marked each year on 29 May.
