The Queen’s College

LECTURERSHIP IN ECONOMICS

The Governing Body proposes, if a suitable candidate presents her or himself, to elect a Stipendiary Lecturer in Economics for three years in the first instance, with effect from 1 October 2010, subject to confirmation by the Governing Body at the end of a one-year probationary period.

The Lecturer will be required to teach for up to six hours a week for the College, or for other Colleges either under an exchange arrangement or in return for tuition fees to be remitted to the College.

The Lecturer will be expected to teach for the main Economics papers in the Honour Schools of PPE, Modern History & Economics, Economics and Management, and Engineering, Economics, & Management, and for any other Economics papers in which the applicant has a particular interest. He or she may be called on to take part in admissions interviews and examinations for the College and will be expected to share in the general supervision of undergraduates studying Economics.

The basic stipend will be on a scale from £12,076 a year (under review) and the Lecturer will be entitled to a shared teaching room and a housing allowance of £1722 a year. Other allowances include free lunch or dinner six times a week, during Full Term in the Senior Common Room; an annual research grant and book grant of up to £500 each; and a one-off grant of up to £900 for the purchase of a computer. Where appropriate the Lecturer will be placed on the USS Pension Scheme.

St Edmund Hall

WILLIAM R. MILLER JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN MOLECULAR ASPECTS OF BIOLOGY

Applications (in hard copy only) are invited for this Fellowship which will be available for three years from 1 October 2010. The Fellowship is intended for a research worker at the beginning of her or his career who either will have recently received, or will be about to receive, a Ph.D. or D.Phil. Degree in October 2010. The Fellowship will be stipendiary unless the person appointed has other emoluments, in which case the stipend will be reduced according to circumstances. The Fellowship is intended for those working in areas such as biological aspects of chemistry, biochemistry, molecular aspects of physiology, pharmacology.

Wolfson College

MICHAEL COULSON VISITING FELLOW IN INDOLOGY 2010–11

Wolfson College proposes to elect a Michael Coulson Visiting Research Fellow in Indology from 1 October 2010. Indology will be understood as the study of the history of languages, literature, philosophy, science, religion, music, art, or archaeology of the Indian sub-continent from sources in oriental languages. The purpose of this election is to enable a relatively junior scholar in Indology to join the College for a period of time in order to finish or come close to finishing a piece of work. Preference will to be given to someone (a) from outside Oxford, (b) who has not yet held an academic teaching post, and (c) already has a doctorate, though none of these three requirements is absolute. Typically, the holder might be finishing their first book.

Tenure

The length of tenure of the Visiting Fellowship may be any period from eight to twenty weeks during the academic year from 1 October 2010 to 30 September 2011, preferably including one full University term. The Fellowship carries with it free single accommodation provided by the College and Common Table meals for this period. Other more expensive accommodation may be available, but the Fellow would be expected to make up the difference in rent.

Applications, typed or clearly printed, including a completed application form, a full curriculum vitae (listing any publications), and the names of two referees, should be sent to the President’s PA (address below), by noon on Monday, 3 May 2010. Candidates should also include details of past research and of the research they will be doing in Oxford. Any additional relevant information should be included in a covering letter. Completed applications should be sent by hard copy. They should not be emailed without prior consultation with the President’s PA. The College is unable to offer financial assistance towards travelling expenses.

University of Oxford

TWO PROFESSORSHIPS OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING (in association with Magdalen College and St Hilda’s College)

The University of Oxford intends to make two appointments to Professorships of Biomedical Engineering in the Department of Engineering Science from 1 October 2010, or as soon as possible thereafter. The Professorship in association with Magdalen College will be in the area of tissue engineering or drug and vaccine delivery, and the Professorship in association with St Hilda’s College will be in cardiovascular engineering or biomaterials. The successful candidates will have outstanding research records and will be of internationally recognized stature in biomedical engineering. They will be expected to pursue a research programme at the forefront of the subject, providing research leadership to colleagues working in this field. They will have the opportunity to work close to clinicians in state-of-the-art laboratories, based in the recently opened Institute of Biomedical Engineering, and to shape the direction of research in the biomedical engineering field.

PEARSON PROFESSORSHIP OF EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND DIRECTOR OF THE OXFORD UNIVERSITY CENTRE FOR EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT (in association with St Anne’s College)

The University of Oxford intends to make an appointment to the Pearson Professorship of Educational Assessment, which includes the Directorship of the Oxford University Centre for Educational Assessment (OUCEA), from 1 October 2010, or as soon as possible thereafter. The Professorship will be held in the Department of Education (http://www.education.ox.ac.uk/) and is attached to a non-stipendiary Professorial Fellowship at St Anne’s College.

OUCEA has been established and is supported through generous funding from Pearson plc. In seeking to elect the Pearson Professor of Educational Assessment and Director of OUCEA, the electors will be looking for a scholar of international distinction in the education field, and more specifically in educational assessment. He or she will have an excellent record of research, publication, and teaching in the field. The Directorship role requires that the Professor provide research, academic, and strategic leadership for the Centre and the person appointed will have a commitment and drive to further develop, promote, and lead OUCEA.

In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the leadership of the Department’s academic community as a whole.

DUBAI PORTS WORLD PROFESSORSHIP OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION (in association with Green Templeton College)

The University of Oxford intends to make an appointment to the Dubai Ports (DP) World Professorship of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Saïd Business School. It is hoped to make an appointment as soon as possible in 2010. Following the generosity of global logistics operator DP World, the University of Oxford established the DP World Professorship of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Saïd Business School. The School seeks to appoint someone who has gone beyond organizational approaches to integrate institutional, social, cultural, cognitive, or political processes involved in innovation, complementing the research strengths of current faculty. Those who have explored issues of entrepreneurship and innovation in a science or technology domain are of particular interest, complementing work being done elsewhere in the School. The Professor will be required to take on the role of Academic Director of the Oxford Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Evidence of both the applicant’s international reputation as a scholar and potential to contribute to the future research profile of the School will be significant factors in determining suitability for the post.
