Graces

Graces submitted to the Regent House on 2 July 2025

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, unless they are withdrawn or a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 111), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 11 July 2025. Further information on requests for a ballot or the amendment of Graces is available to members of the Regent House on the Regent House Petitions site.§

1. That the recommendations in paragraph 5 of the Second Joint Report of the Council and the General Board, dated 4 June 2025, on the review of examination regulations following the marking and assessment boycott (Reporter, 6787, 2024–25, p. 606) be approved.1

2. That the recommendations in paragraph 27 of the Report of the Council, dated 4 June 2025, recommending the budget and allocations from the Chest for 2025–26 (Reporter, 6787, 2024–25, p. 610) be approved.2

3. That Regulations 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Ordinance for the Veterinary Education Committee (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 144) be amended to read as follows:3

1. The Veterinary Education Committee shall consist of:

(a)the Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, or a person appointed by the Head of the Department, who shall be Chair;

(b)the Director of Teaching in the Veterinary School;

(c)the Director of Education (Medical and Veterinary Sciences Triposes) in the Faculty of Biology;

(d)the Secretary of the Faculty Board of Veterinary Medicine, who shall be Secretary of the Committee;

(e)the Chair of the Faculty Board of Biology;

(f)the Chair of the Faculty Board of Veterinary Medicine;

(g)three persons appointed by the Faculty Board of Biology from institutions contributing to teaching in years one and two;

(h)three persons appointed by the Faculty Board of Veterinary Medicine from institutions contributing to teaching in years three to six;

(i)one person appointed by the Senior Tutors’ Committee;

(j)one person appointed by the Director of Studies Committee;

(k)the members of the Faculty Board of Veterinary Medicine in class (f);

(l)co-opted members as required by the Committee.

The Secretary of the School of the Biological Sciences and the Secretary of the Faculty Board of Biology shall have the right to attend meetings of the Committee.

2. Members in classes (g), (h), (i) and (j) shall be appointed in the Michaelmas Term to serve for four years from 1 January following their appointment.

3. It shall be the duty of the Committee to keep under review the provision of veterinary education in the University, with a view to ensuring that the pre-clinical (years one and two) and clinical (years four to six) parts of the course leading to the Vet.M.B. Degree form a coherent whole, that the balance of elements in the curriculum is appropriate, and that standards in different subjects are consistent. The Committee shall advise the Faculty Boards of Biology and Veterinary Medicine on the following matters:

(a)matters relating to the education of veterinary students, including admissions policies, student statistics, and examination results;

(b)matters relating to resources needed for the provision of veterinary education;

(c)proposals for changes in the veterinary curriculum and in the relevant examinations.

The Committee shall advise the Faculty Board of Clinical Medicine on any matters relating to veterinary education which are relevant to that Faculty Board.

4. The Committee shall meet at least twice a term in each academic year. No business shall be transacted at any meeting of the Committee unless at least five members are present.

4. That Regulation 3 of the Ordinance for College Accounts (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 1090) be amended to read as follows:4

3. The index referred to in the Schedule to Statute G II in relation to College contributions under Statute G II 16 shall be the Consumer Prices Index plus one per cent.

  • 3The Council, on the recommendation of the General Board and the Faculty Boards of Biology and Veterinary Medicine, has approved amendments to the terms of reference for the Committee. The amendments update the membership and increase the frequency of meetings. References to the years of study in the pre-clinical and clinical parts of the course have also been added.

  • 4The Council, on the recommendation of its Finance Committee and with the support of the Bursars’ Committee, is proposing this change to revise the inflation index applied when assessing College contributions.
