On Friday, 8 September 2023, the following rang the bells of Great St Mary’s, the University Church, for the anniversary of the Accession of HM King Charles III:

The ringing included touches of Stedman Triples and Cambridge Major.
This is the first time that the bells have been rung for the Accession during the present reign. The earliest known record1 of the bells of Great St Mary’s being rung for an Accession was in 1572 for that of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth I. For their labours, the ringers were paid a total of 4d.
