University Composition Fees

10 March 2014

In the following Notice the Council proposes amendments to the fees for certain categories of students. The current Fee Schedules and other information on University Composition Fees is available at http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/planning/fees/.

Fees for Home and EU postgraduate students in 2014–15

The Council proposes a rate of increase of 2.46% on 2013–14 fees for Home and EU postgraduate research courses for the academical year 2014–15, reflecting guidance from the Research Councils. The same increase will apply to those M.Phil. courses charged at the same rate as the Ph.D.

For all other Home/EU fees for M.Phil. courses, the Council proposes that the fees increase by 3.3% (the same increase as for non-regulated undergraduate fees for 2014–15), except where other proposals have been made by the Councils of the Schools or minor adjustment to the Schedule is needed. The fees are set out in the Schedule attached to this Notice.

The Council of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences has revised some of the fee increases for 2014–15 for certain postgraduate courses since the Notice published on 13 March 2013 (Reporter, 6301, 2012–13, p. 396) and these are reflected in the rates in the Schedule.

M.B.A., M.Fin., and M.St. courses

The Council proposes the 2014–15 fees for the M.B.A. and M.Fin. courses and certain M.St. courses which have been recommended by the relevant bodies as set out in the attached Schedule.

Fees for Overseas students in 2015–16

The Council proposes that:

(a) Overseas fees for all continuing and new entrant undergraduate students be increased by 5% over the 2014–15 rates;

(b) Overseas fees for all continuing and new entrant postgraduate students be increased by 5% over the 2014–15 rates (except for continuing Ph.D., M.Sc., M.Litt., Ed.D., Eng.D., and C.P.G.S. students whose fees are fixed for the duration of their course).

Additional increments for certain postgraduate courses in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Technology from September 2015

The Councils of the Schools have recommended that the Overseas fees for the courses listed below should be amended, with effect from September 2015, as follows:

For the M.Phil. in Industrial Systems, Manufacture, and Management, the Overseas fee to be increased by £1,622 for 2015–16 (in addition to general inflation)

For the M.C.L., the Overseas fee to increase to £23,001 in 2015–16.

The Council is accordingly submitting a Grace to the Regent House (Grace 1, p. 439) for the approval of the fees set out in the Schedule attached to this Notice.

Proposed additional increments in Home and EU fees for certain postgraduate courses in 2015–16

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Technology have proposed a number of baseline increases to Home and EU postgraduate fees to be implemented from September 2015 which will be included in fee rates submitted for approval by Grace in due course. These provisional increases are set out in the annex below.

Review of governance: Registrary’s Notice

In response to a request from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) in August 2011, the University agreed to review its governance arrangements in the light of the changing Higher Education context by the end of the 2013–14 academical year. In October 2013, the Council agreed to establish a working group to undertake a light touch review. The Council, at its meeting in February, received the working group’s report, which the Audit Committee had already received and, for its part, approved subject to minor proposed amendments, and approved it for submission to HEFCE. That report is now published for the information of the Regent House at http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/reporter/2013-14/weekly/6342/CambridgeGovernanceReviewReport.pdf.
