The Vice-Chancellor invites those qualified under the regulations for Discussions (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 103) to attend a Discussion in the Senate-House, on Tuesday, 14 January 2014, at 2 p.m., for the discussion of:

1. Report of the General Board, dated 25 November 2013, on the establishment of a Stephen W. Hawking Professorship of Cosmology (Reporter, 6327, 2013–14, p. 133).

2. Second-stage Report of the Council, dated 6 December 2013, on the restructuring of space and refurbishment of the basement, ground, and first floors of the Department of Genetics on the Downing site (p. 233).

3. Report of the General Board, dated 4 December 2013, on the establishment of a Professorship of History of Art (p. 234).

Notice of a Discussion on Tuesday, 21 January 2014

The Vice-Chancellor invites those qualified under the regulations for Discussions (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 103) to attend a Discussion in the Senate-House, on Tuesday, 21 January 2014, at 2 p.m., for the discussion of:

1. Review of the governance and management arrangements for sport within the University, November 2013 (see the Council’s Notice dated 2 December 2013 (Reporter, 6238, 2013–14, p. 139), and the full report at http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/reporter/2013-14/weekly/6328/SportReview.pdf).

2. Annual Report of the Council for the academical year 2012–13, dated 25 November 2013 (Reporter, 6329, 2013–14, p. 158).

Notice of benefactions

9 December 2013

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that he has accepted with gratitude the following benefactions, of which both the capital and the income may be used:

(i)a benefaction of $2,000,000 from the Trustees of the Foundation For the Future, payable over three years, to support the administrative and research costs of a Cambridge Centre for Digital Knowledge, which will be based at the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CRASSH);

(ii)a benefaction of £150,000 from the Bonita Trust, payable over two years, of which £100,000 will be applied towards the purchase of the Lewis-Gibson Genizah Collection jointly by the University Library and by the Bodleian Library, University of Oxford, and £50,000 will be used to fund a Bonita Trust Genizah Research Associate for one year;

(iii)a benefaction of £120,000 from Mr Glenn Earle, payable over four years, to establish a programme of scholarships to support students on the Master of Finance programme at the Judge Business School;

(iv)a benefaction of £25,000 from the GLC Charitable Trust to support the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences;

(v)a benefaction of £19,500 from Winton Capital Management, payable over three years, to support a series of career-focussed talks for women students taking STEMM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) over the same period.
