Regulations for examinations

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, the regulations for certain University examinations have been amended as follows:

Preliminary Examination for Part I of the Historical Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 255)

SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS

The Faculty Board of History give notice of amendments to the Supplementary Regulations for the Preliminary Examinations, Part I, of the Historical Tripos. Paper 17 will no longer be set in two sections. Paper 18 remains divided.

With immediate effect

Papers 2–19. British, European, and world history

By removing the reference to Paper 17 and amending the first sentence of the second paragraph of the Supplementary Regulation so as to read:

Three questions must be answered but no question shall be specified as compulsory, except that in Paper 18 (European history, since 1890) candidates will be required to answer at least one question from each of sections A and B.

The Faculty Board are satisfied that no candidate’s preparation for the examination in 2013 will be adversely affected by this amendment.

Archaeological and Anthropological Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 261)

With immediate effect

A temporary regulation has been introduced so as to phase out the Tripos in tandem with the introduction of the new Human, Social, and Political Sciences Tripos (see the Report of the General Board, published on 22 June 2011, in Reporter, 6230, 2010–11, p. 958).

By introducing a temporary regulation so as to read:

22. Examinations for the Archaeological and Anthropological Tripos will be held for the last time as follows:

Part I in 2013

Part IIa in 2014

Part IIb in 2015

Engineering Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 316)

With immediate effect

The Faculty Board for Engineering give notice that, with immediate effect, Regulation 4 of the Engineering Tripos be amended so as to read:

4. In each Part of the Engineering Tripos the questions proposed by each Examiner or Assessor shall be approved by the body of Examiners, or by a sub-group of those Examiners as nominated by the Chairman of Examiners.

The Department of Engineering has confirmed that no candidate has been disadvantaged by this change.

Engineering Tripos, Parts IIa and IIb

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 317 and p. 319)

With effect from 1 October 2013

The Faculty Board for Engineering give notice that, with effect from 1 October 2013, Group G in the Scheme of examination for Part IIa and Part IIb will be renamed ‘Bioengineering’.

The Department of Engineering has confirmed that no candidate has been disadvantaged by this change.

Philosophy Tripos, Part II

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 412)

With effect from 1 October 2013

The regulations for Part II of the Tripos have been amended. Paper 6, Philosophy of science, is no longer suspended.

By removing the footnote indicating suspension.

Politics, Psychology, and Sociology (Social and Political Sciences) Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 415)

With immediate effect

A temporary regulation has been introduced so as to phase out the Tripos in tandem with the introduction of the new Human, Social, and Political Sciences Tripos (see the Report of the General Board, published on 22 June 2011, Reporter, 6230, 2010–11, p. 958).

By introducing a temporary regulation so as to read:

24. Examinations for the Politics, Psychology, and Sociology (Social and Political Sciences) Tripos will be held for the last time as follows:

Politics, Psychology, and Sociology (Social and Political Sciences) Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 420)

With immediate effect

The Faculty Board of Human, Social, and Political Sciences give notice that the Supplementary Regulations for the Tripos have been changed so as to increase the word limit for the statistical assignment in the examination for Paper Int. 1. ‘Inquiry and analysis I’, from 2,500 to 3,500 words.

Paper Int. 1. Inquiry and analysis I

By amending the final sentence of the Supplementary Regulation so as to read:

The paper will be examined by one 2,500-word methodological essay, one 3,500-word statistical assignment, and a project report of 5,000 words.

The Faculty Board of Human, Social, and Political Sciences are satisfied that no candidate’s preparation for the examination will be affected.
