Annual Meetings of the Faculty Boards

Asian and Middle Eastern Studies

The Chairman of the Faculty Board of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies gives notice that the Annual Meeting of the Faculty will be held at 4 p.m. on 29 November 2011, in Rooms 8 and 9, Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Sidgwick Avenue. Among the business to be transacted will be the election, in accordance with Statute C, IV, 2(c), of one member to serve on the Faculty Board for four years from 1 January 2012.

Nomination forms are available from Mrs Mary Howe, Faculty Administrator, Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Sidgwick Site (tel. 01223 335107, email administrator@ames.cam.ac.uk). Nominations, signed by the proposer and seconder, should be returned to the Faculty Administrator not later than 15 November 2011, together with notice of any other business.

History

The Chairman of the Faculty Board of History gives notice that the Annual Meeting of the Faculty will be held at 2.15 p.m. on Tuesday, 22 November 2011, in Seminar Room 6 in the Faculty of History. The agenda for the meeting will be circulated to each member of the Faculty. One of the items of business will be to elect, in accordance with Statute C, IV, 2(c), three members of the Faculty Board in class (c) to serve for four years, one member to serve in class (c) for two years, and one member in class (c) to serve for one year from 1 January 2012.

Nominations for the election and notice of any other business should reach the Secretary at the Faculty of History, West Road, not later than 12 noon on Tuesday, 17 November 2011.

Human, Social, and Political Science

The Chairman of the Faculty Board of Human, Social, and Political Science gives notice that the Annual Meeting of the Faculty will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, 24 November 2011, in the Social Sciences Committee Room, Free School Lane. The main business will be the election of nine members of the Faculty Board in class (c), in accordance with Statute C, IV, 2(c).

Nominations, signed by the proposer and seconder, for which the consent of the candidate must be obtained, should reach the Secretary of the Faculty Board, Faculty of Human, Social, and Political Science, Free School Lane or Pembroke Street, not later than Monday, 14 November 2011. Notice of any other business should reach the Secretary by the same date.

Law

The Chairman of the Faculty Board of Law gives notice that the Annual Meeting of the Faculty will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, 17 November 2011, in Room G24, Faculty of Law, 10 West Road. The main items of business will be the Chairman’s report, and the election, in accordance with Statute C, IV, 2(c), of two members of the Faculty Board in class (c) to serve for four years from 1 January 2012.

Notice of any other business should reach the Academic Secretary to the Faculty of Law, Dr Matthew Conaglen, by Friday, 11 November 2011. Nominations for the election to membership of the Faculty Board should reach him by the same date. Nominations should be in writing. They should be signed by the proposer and a seconder, and should contain a signed statement by the nominee that he or she is willing to serve if elected.

Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Tripos, Part II, 2012: Notice of addition to Regulation 8 options

Further to their Notices of 9 March 2011 (Reporter, 2010–11, p. 594) and 19 October 2011 (Reporter, 2011–12, p. 74), the Faculty Board of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies give notice of the following addition to the options offered under Regulation 8 of Part II for the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Tripos examination in 2012:

Paper J.19 Contemporary Japanese society

The course-work that constitutes this paper assessment consists of one research essay of between 6,000 and 7,500 words, including footnotes and excluding bibliography. Each student will develop the topic of the essay in consultation with the instructor. A one-page topic and paper outline plus a bibliography will be due during the first class session of Lent Term. Two copies of the project shall be submitted to the Programmes Administrator in the Faculty Office so as to arrive not later than the division of Easter Term.

The Faculty Board are content that no candidate’s preparation will be affected by this change.
