Supplemental Charter for New Hall: Notice

The Registrary has received notice from the President of New Hall that the College has received the Supplemental Charter amending the name and style of the College to ‘The President and Fellows of Murray Edwards College founded as New Hall in the University of Cambridge, to be known as Murray Edwards College’. The Charter came into effect on 14 June 2011.

The short title of the College will be Murray Edwards College and the Council has agreed to the College’s proposal that the abbreviation to be used in University publications will be MUR.

Office of Chancellor: Appointment of Voting Days

18 June 2011

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice in accordance with Regulation 8(b) for the Nomination and Election of the Chancellor, as amended by the Grace of the Senate of 26 May 2011 (Reporter, 26 May 2011, p. 861), that the period for nominations having closed at 5 p.m. on 17 June and there being more than one nomination, voting by the Senate will take place.

In addition to the candidate nominated by the Nomination Board (The Lord Sainsbury of Turville, K, see Reporter, 20 May 2011, p. 811), the Vice-Chancellor has received papers signed by fifty or more members of the Senate nominating the following persons for election to the Office of Chancellor and has received their written consent to such nomination:

Mr Brian Blessed

Mr Michael Mansfield

In accordance with Regulation 8(b), the Vice-Chancellor now appoints Friday, 14 October and Saturday, 15 October 2011 as the two days for voting. Members of the Senate should note that under Statute A, I, 1 governing the election of the Chancellor, voting shall be in person. Postal or proxy voting is not possible.

A notice confirming further details of the procedure for voting will be published in the Reporter in due course.

University Composition Fees: Notice

20 June 2011

In the following Notice the Council proposes an increase in fees for Home and EU postgraduate students in 2011–12. The Council also gives notice of proposals for additional increments to the fees for Home and EU postgraduate students following certain postgraduate courses in the Schools of Arts and Humanities, the Humanities and Social Sciences, and Technology from 1 September 2012. (The fees for Home and EU postgraduate students in 2012–13 will be submitted for approval in 2012.)

Increase in fees for Home and EU postgraduate students in 2011–12

The Council has agreed to propose a rate of increase of 1.9% on 2010–11 fees for Home and EU postgraduate students for the academical year 2011–12; this reflects guidance offered by the Research Councils. The Research Councils’ guidance also includes an additional £200 on top of the percentage increase to support researcher development and transferable skills training. The revised fees are set out in the Schedule to this Notice.

Differential fees for certain postgraduate courses in the Schools of Arts and Humanities, the Humanities and Social Sciences, and Technology from 1 September 2012

The Councils of the Schools have recommended that the fees for Home and EU students for the postgraduate courses listed below should be increased, with effect from 1 September 2012, by the following amounts in addition to any general increase.

The Council is accordingly submitting a Grace to the Regent House (Grace 1, p. 973) for the approval of revised fees for 2011–12, which result from the proposals in this Notice together with certain other necessary changes including entries for new courses announced by the General Board during the academical year 2010–11 (see Reporter, pp. 744 and 939). A complete table of fees for Home, EU, and Island students for 2011–12 and for overseas students for 2011–12 and 2012–13 resulting from the above changes will be published in the next edition of Statutes and Ordinances.
