Darwin College

MASTER

The Fellows of Darwin College will soon be proceeding to the election of a Master in succession to Professor William Brown, whose tenure ends on 30 September 2012. Fitzwilliam College

A COLLOQUIUM IN MEMORY OF EMILE PERREAU-SAUSSINE

Fitzwilliam College will host a Colloquium in memory of Emile Perreau-Saussine, L ès L, D.E.A., M.A., Ph.D., Fellow of the College and, jointly with Pembroke College, College Lecturer in Social and Political Sciences, 2001–10, who died on 23 February 2010, aged 37 years. It will be held on Thursday, 17 February, from 5.30 to 7 p.m., in the Fitzwilliam College Auditorium.

Three short talks will be given, on the theme of Republicanism and religion, followed by open discussion about the role of faith in a democratic age. All are welcome.

Speakers: Christopher Brooke (King’s College), Philippe de Lara (Université Panthéon-Assas, Paris), and Richard Rex (Queens’ College).

King’s College

PROVOST

King’s College will elect a new Provost by July 2011, to take office in January 2012. Candidates should have broad experience of academic life or a related field of activity. Lucy Cavendish College

Lucy Cavendish College is offering two stipendiary Research Fellowships and one non-stipendiary Research Fellowship for women* who hold Ph.Ds.** The appointments will be for one year in the first instance from 1 October 2011, and will be renewable annually until 30 September 2014, when the Research Fellowships will terminate. The Research Fellowships are subject to satisfactory progress and annual reports.

SUTASOMA RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

For research in the humanities and social sciences, in an area that relates scholarship to current issues facing the world.

ISAAC NEWTON–DOROTHY EMMET RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

For research in the arts and humanities, with a preference for Law and English.

The stipend for each of these Research Fellowships will be £17,111 a year, depending on funding already available to the candidate. Candidates who wish to hold the Research Fellowship on a part-time basis will also be considered, in which case the stipend would be pro rata. The successful candidates will be expected to undertake four hours of small group teaching a week, to become members of the College, to reside in Cambridge, and to participate fully in College life.

GREENWOOD BIDDER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (NON-STIPENDIARY)

There is no restriction on subject, but in cases of equal merit, preference will be given to candidates working in the natural sciences, particularly biological sciences. Candidates for this Research Fellowship should be in receipt of full funding.

Both stipendiary and non-stipendiary Research Fellows are entitled to a meals allowance and a small travel/book grant. The Sutasoma and Isaac Newton–Dorothy Emmet Research Fellows may also be offered subsidized accommodation in College, subject to availability.

The appointments will be conditional upon the successful candidates providing satisfactory evidence of the right to work in England in the capacity offered, together with proof of entry clearance/leave to remain.

The closing date for receipt of applications and references is noon on Wednesday, 2 March 2011. Interviews will be held in early May 2011.

* By the Employment Act 1989, the College has exemption from the provisions of the Sex Discrimination Act, 1975, in relation to gender.

** The successful candidates must hold a doctorate at the time of the start of the appointment in October 2011.

St John’s College

CHAPLAIN

The College seeks to appoint a Chaplain in Anglican orders from 26 April, or as soon as possible thereafter but no later than 1 September 2011, for a period of five years. The Chaplain assists the Dean, Mr Dormor, leading services in the Chapel and providing pastoral care for members and staff of the College, particularly the junior members. There is no requirement that the Chaplain engage in academic work or teaching, though academic credentials and an interest in the College as a place of ‘education, religion, learning and research’ would be advantageous.

Child Protection Policy

The person appointed to the post of Chaplain will be required to work alongside the Choristers and Probationers of St John’s College Choir. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Criminal Records Bureau.
