Regulations for Examinations

Classical Tripos

The Notice that appeared in the Reporter on 16 December 2009 (2009–10, p. 433) was incorrect and incomplete. The amended Regulation 23 pertains to Part II of the Tripos, not Part Ib; the Notice should also have referred to the removal of proviso (3) from Regulation 24. The complete corrected Notice is as follows:

Classical Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 289)

With effect from 1 October 2010

Paper 8 (Greek and Roman philosophy) of Part Ib of the Classical Tripos will replace Paper 4 (History of ancient philosophy) in Part Ib of the Philosophy Tripos. In consequence, the third provisos in Regulations 23 and 24 of the Classical Tripos are redundant. The regulations have been amended as follows:

Part Ib

Regulation 17.

By amending the regulation so as to read:

Paper 8. Greek and Roman philosophy (also serves as Paper GL.18 of the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos and as Paper 4 in Part Ib of the Philosophy Tripos).

Part II

Regulations 23 and 24.

By removing proviso (3).

Natural Sciences Tripos, Parts II and III

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 381)

With effect from 1 October 2010

Part II

Regulation 30.

Experimental and Theoretical Physics

Paper 3 and Paper 4 are now divided into Papers 3A, 3B, 4A, and 4B, each of one and a half hours’ duration.

Paragraphs (a) and (b) have been amended so as to read:

(a)Papers 1 and 2, each of which is of three hours’ duration;

(b)a minimum of three and a maximum of four from Papers 3A, 3B, 4A, and 4B, each of which is of one and a half hours’ duration;

The sentences in lines 5–6 have been deleted, and two new sentences have been inserted before the final paragraph so as to read:

If a candidate offers four papers in (b) the Examiners will take into account the three components which they judge to be the best.

If a candidate offers more than three units of further work in (c) the Examiners will take into account the three components which they judge to be the best.

Physical Sciences

The papers offered for Half Subject Experimental and Theoretical Physics have changed. Paper 3 and Paper 4 are now divided into Papers 3A, 3B, 4A, and 4B.

Paragraph (2) has been amended so as to read:

Part III

Regulation 36.
