Graces

Graces submitted to the Regent House on 13 October 2010

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 22 October 2010.

1. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 2 June 2010, on the University Library and the Centre for Applied Research in Educational Technologies (Reporter, 2009–10, p. 996) be approved.1

2. That the regulations for the Leigh Trapnell Professorship of Quantum Physics Fund be amended so as to read:2

1. The sums received from Mrs Hazel N. Trapnell in memory of her husband, Mr Roger Leigh Trapnell, formerly of King’s College, towards the endowment of the Leigh Trapnell Professorship of Quantum Physics, shall form a fund called the Leigh Trapnell Professorship of Quantum Physics Fund.

2. The first charge on the Fund shall be the payment of the stipend, national insurance, pension contributions, and associated indirect costs of the Professor payable by the University.

3. After provision has been made in accordance with Regulation 2, the income of the Fund may be applied for the support of teaching or research in Quantum Physics in such manner as shall be approved by the General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Mathematics.

4. Any unexpended income in a financial year may either be added to the capital of the Fund or accumulated for use as income in one or more subsequent years in accordance with Regulations 2 and 3, as the General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Mathematics, may determine.

Graces submitted to the Senate on 13 October 2010

The Council submits the following Graces to the Senate. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Senate (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 111) will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 22 October 2010.

1. That Professor Dame Susan Jocelyn Bell Burnell, of New Hall, be appointed a member of the Nomination Board to serve for four years from 1 January 2011.1

2. That Professor Sir Martin Best Harris, of Clare Hall, be appointed a member of the Nomination Board to serve for four years from 1 January 2011.1

3. That Professor Sir Graeme Davies, of St Catharine’s College, be appointed a member of the Nomination Board to serve for four years from 1 January 2011.1

4. That Mr Benjamin Jonathan Parker, of St John’s College, be appointed a member of the Nomination Board to serve for four years from 1 January 2011.1

5. That Sir Peter Williams, of Selwyn College, be appointed a member of the Nomination Board to serve until 31 December 2013.2

The Council has sanctioned the submission of the following Graces to the Regent House at a Congregation to be held on 23 October 2010:
