Graces

Graces submitted to the Regent House on 19 May 2010

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. In accordance with the provisions of Regulation 7 of the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), the Council has determined that a vote shall be taken by ballot on Grace 4 (see the Council’s Notice, p. 850). The remaining Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 107), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 28 May 2010.

1. That a Forbes Fund be established in the University, to be governed by the following regulations:1

Forbes Fund

1. The gift of £2m to the University from Dr Colin Forbes shall form a fund called the Forbes Fund.

2. The capital and income of the Fund shall be applied for such purposes in the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences as the Director and the Curators of the Museum and the Woodwardian Professor of Geology jointly shall from time to time decide.

3. The Director of the Museum shall make an Annual Report on the outgoings of the Fund to the Faculty Board of Earth Sciences and Geography.

2. That, with immediate effect, the regulations for the review of examinations for undergraduate and certain other qualifications (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 238) and the regulations for the review of examinations for postgraduate qualifications (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 440) be amended as set out in the Council’s Notice, dated 10 May (see p. 848).

3. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the Council, dated 15 March 2010, on amendments to Statute A (membership of the Senate and election of student members of the Council) (Reporter, 2009–10, p. 660) be approved.2

4. That all construction works for a lift into the Regent House Combination Room be removed and the building returned to its former state, and that the Council report, as soon as convenient, to the Regent House with proposals to secure reasonable access to the Combination Room and associated rooms for those unable to use the stairs.3

5. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 26 April 2010, on the establishment of a Professorship of Demography (Reporter, 2009–10, p. 768) be approved.

6. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 26 April 2010, on the establishment of a Professorship of Old Age Psychiatry (Reporter, 2009–10, p. 769) be approved.

7. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 26 April 2010, on the establishment of a Professorship of Photonic Systems and Displays (Reporter, 2009–10, p. 770) be approved.

8. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 26 April 2010, on the establishment of a Readership in the Department of Land Economy (Reporter, 2009–10, p. 771) be approved.

9. That the recommendations in paragraph 5 of the Report of the General Board, dated 26 April 2010, on the establishment of a Readership in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics (Reporter, 2009–10, p. 771) be approved.
