Darwin College

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

Further details and information on how to apply are available from the Master’s Secretary, Janet Gibson, Darwin College, Cambridge, CB3 9EU (email jg323@cam.ac.uk), or on the College website at http://www.dar.cam.ac.uk/researchfellows/vacancies/index.shtml.

Adrian Research Fellowship in Archaeology

The College is prepared, thanks to a generous original donation from Trinity College, Cambridge, to elect a stipendiary Adrian Research Fellow, if a suitable candidate applies.

Candidates should be engaged in research within the field of World Archaeology. In past archaeological endeavour, research has been especially active in Europe and North America. These regions have seen much of the discipline’s development, from both methodological and theoretical perspectives. The College is interested in applications that explore the implementation of approaches that are novel, in either methodological or theoretical terms, applied to other regions of the world.

Candidates should be at a relatively early stage in their research careers. Candidates should have been awarded the Ph.D. Degree or an equivalently recognized degree, and be able to present to the electors substantial amounts of written work of outstanding quality, published or unpublished. No candidate should have completed in total more than seven years of postgraduate research by 1 October 2010.

The Fellowship will run for three years from 1 October 2010. The Fellowship is renewable for one further year to a maximum of four years after that period at the discretion of the Fellowships Committee. The successful candidate will be a member of the Governing Body of Darwin College, will have dining rights, and will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the College, which may be seen on the College website or on request to the Bursar. The closing date for applications is 8 January 2010.

Schlumberger Interdisciplinary Research Fellowship

The Governing Body of Darwin College and Schlumberger Cambridge Research Limited jointly invite applications for a non-stipendiary Research Fellowship supporting interdisciplinary research, tenable at Darwin College, and sponsored by Schlumberger Cambridge Research Limited.

Candidates’ research interests may be in Chemistry, Physics, Geophysics, Mathematics, Engineering (including Chemical Engineering), and Materials Science. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue interdisciplinary research during the tenure of the Fellowship, and will be expected to organize seminars and meetings to promote innovative work across disciplinary boundaries.

The Fellowship is open to men and women from any university, irrespective of age, and is intended for outstanding researchers who are completing, or who have recently completed, their Ph.D. Degree. No candidate should have completed in total more than seven years of postgraduate research by 1 October 2010.

The Fellowship will run for two years from 1 October 2010, or from an alternative date soon afterwards to be agreed. The successful candidate will be a member of the Governing Body of Darwin College, will have dining rights, and will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the College, which may be seen on the College website or on request to the Bursar. The closing date for applications is 8 January 2010.

The Governing Body of Darwin College proposes to elect a number of non-stipendiary Research Fellows, without limitation of subject, tenable for three years from 1 October 2010. The Fellowships are open to men and women from any university, irrespective of age, without limitation of subject, and are intended for outstanding researchers who are completing, or who have recently completed, their Ph.D. Degree.
