Assistant Director (Central Services) in the Fitzwilliam Museum

The Fitzwilliam Museum is the principal museum of the University of Cambridge with Designated collections of international importance and a staff of 114 FTE. This is the senior administrative role and the post-holder is leader of the Central Services Division.

The Assistant Director, Central Services, is responsible to the Director and Syndicate of the Museum for financial and personnel administration, the management and security of the buildings and collections, and the development and delivery of operational and commercial services, including IT and photography, to staff and to the visiting public. Together with the Director and senior colleagues he/she must monitor all budgetary aspects of the Museum's operations and ensure sufficient funds are assigned for projects and activities.

Candidates should hold at least a good first degree, have finance and administration experience at a senior level, and skills in project management/strategic planning. The role requires the application of a breadth and depth of experience gained by working in a museum, cultural or educational institution combined with expertise in one of more of the following: HR, staff development/training, buildings maintenance, facilities management, museum or visitor services management. Proven leadership, strong organizational and management abilities, sensitive interpersonal skills, combined with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, are essential, combined with evidence of commitment to professional development.

The salary will be in the range £51,095 to £59,233 a year.

Administrative Officer (Education Section) in the Academic Division of the University Offices

The Education Section is the part of the University's central administration with responsibility for the implementation of the University's educational policies and procedures.

The post-holder will work with the members of the Section in supporting the University's procedures for the quality of learning, teaching, and assessment, in particular in areas relating to the University's programme of departmental reviews and coordination of the Natural Sciences course. The post-holder will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and have relevant administrative experience, preferably in higher education. Good communication and IT skills, and the ability to work to tight deadlines are essential. The salary will be in the range £25,888 to £33,780 a year.

Temporary Lectureship in Scandinavian History of the Medieval Period in the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic

The funds for this post are available for four years in the first instance but it is hoped the post will be a continuing one if funding permits. The salary will be in the range £34,793 to £44,074 a year.

This post is open to post-doctoral candidates showing excellent promise in this field, or more established scholars with a significant publications record. The appointee will be expected to teach and examine in both Parts of the Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic Tripos, to supervise and examine postgraduate work, to undertake research, to publish in their specialist field, and to contribute actively to the Department's research profile. The person appointed will be a member of the Departmental Committee and the Graduate Sub-Committee. He/she will be expected to contribute to the work of various Faculty committees, and to take on administrative roles.

The position is for a fixed term of one year in the first instance. The successful applicant will be expected to teach at undergraduate and Master's levels; and to contribute, as appropriate, to the academic administration of the Department. The post-holder would also be expected to contribute to the Department's high level of research activity, as appropriate to the duration of the post. A Ph.D. Degree in a relevant field is required. According to experience, the appointment will be on the University Lecturer scale, which ranges from £34,793 to £44,074 a year.

Senior Research Associate and Research Associate in the Faculty of English

Cambridge University, in association with the Arts and Humanities Research Council, wishes to appoint one Senior Research Associate and one Research Associate, both for a period of one year, with effect from 1 October 2008, to its project entitled Scriptorium: Medieval and Early Modern Manuscripts Online, based in the Faculty of English (http://scriptorium.english.cam.ac.uk/).

Candidates will need high-level bibliographical, codicological, and palaeographical skills relevant to English manuscript study in the period 1450-1720, and should be familiar with (or ready to develop expertise in) HTML and XML, as well as javascript and database-driven projects, and the processing and handling of digital images. The Senior Research Associate and Research Associate will be responsible for organizing colloquia and handling project communications, and for coordinating manuscript-based research, developing both electronic and print outputs, and producing written research at the highest level; candidates therefore must have a doctorate in a relevant period and discipline (or comparable research experience), experience in handling medieval and/or early modern manuscripts, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Those with a proven research record, and with experience with one or more of the manuscript subject areas (e.g. English and/or Latin poetry, heraldry, law, medicine, theology), will be preferred. Faculty-based mentoring will be available.

The salary will be, for a Senior Research Associate, from £34,793 to £44,074 a year and, for a Research Associate, from £25,888 to £33,780 a year. This is the final year of the research project.
