University Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry in the School of Biological Sciences seeks applicants with outstanding research programmes and enthusiasm for teaching to appoint to a Lectureship, available from 1 October 2008. The salary will be in the range of £34,793 to £44,074 a year.

The Department aims to enhance its current areas of research strength in Structural and Chemical Biology, DNA and RNA Biochemistry, Plant Biochemistry, Molecular Microbiology, Molecular Cell Pathology, and Systems Biology. Applications will be welcome from candidates in any of these areas.

The successful applicant will be expected to initiate an independent programme of research in biochemistry and the duties of the post will include contributions to graduate and undergraduate teaching, with opportunities in both the Natural Sciences Tripos (years 1-4) and the Medical and Veterinary Sciences Tripos (year 1).

Administrative Officer in the Academic Division

The post-holder will support the Head of the International Office in the effective development and operation of the Office in general and in oversight of relevant developments in Europe and the Americas in particular. Duties will include: preparing briefings for senior officers, facilitating the establishment of partnership agreements, and providing administrative support for the relevant area working groups. The person appointed will also provide advice to Colleges and Departments on matters relating to international student welfare. The post-holder will organize twice-yearly international student orientation events, and work closely with the Exchanges and Mobility Coordinator to ensure the smooth running of a number of University-wide mobility programmes in her/his designated region.

Applicants should be educated to degree level and have substantial relevant experience in an administrative post. Knowledge of a European language other than English is desirable. The salary will be in the range of £24,403 to £28,290 a year.

Temporary Lecturer in Cultural and/or Historical Geography in the Department of Geography

Applications are invited for a Lectureship in Cultural and/or Historical (Human) Geography, to be filled from 1 October 2008 or earlier. The position, which is for a fixed term of one year, is to replace Professor Susan Owens whilst she holds the King Carl XVI Gustaf Visiting Professorship in Stockholm. The successful applicant will be expected to teach at undergraduate and Master's levels; and to contribute, as appropriate, to the academic administration of the Department. The post-holder would also be expected to contribute to the Department's high level of research activity, as appropriate to the duration of the post. A Ph.D. Degree in a relevant field is required. According to experience, the appointment will be on the University Lecturer scale, which ranges from £34,793 to £44,074 a year.
