The following elections, appointments, and reappointments have been made:
Professor D. E. Detmer, M.D., Kansas, University Professor of Health Policy and Professor of Surgery, University of Virginia, elected Dennis Gillings Professor of Health Management from 1 April 1999.
Professor D. A. Turner, M.A., University College, Dublin, D.Phil., Oxford, H. G. Wood Professor of Theology and Head of the Department of Theology, University of Birmingham, elected Norris-Hulse Professor of Divinity from 1 October 1999.
Chemical Engineering. Mr R. T. J. Marshall appointed from 1 October 1998 for five years.
University Offices (General Board Division). Mrs E. Dainty, B.Sc., Reading, M.Sc., Aberystwyth, appointed Administrative Officer, Grade I, from 14 December 1998 for three years.
International Studies. Professor J. B. L. Mayall, SID, appointed from 1 January 1999 for five years.
Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic. The General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of English, have appointed Dr A. P. M. Orchard, EM, to be Head of the Department from 1 January 1999 for five years.
Land Economy. The General Board, on the recommendation of the Board of Land Economy, have appointed Professor M. J. Grant, CL, to be Head of the Department from 1 January 1999 for five years.
Criminology. The General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Law, have appointed Dr T. H. Bennett, TH, to be Acting Head of the Department from 1 January 1999 for one year or until the appointment of the new Director, whichever is the earlier.
Other Languages. The General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Modern and Medieval Languages, have appointed Ms E. G. C. Streitman, NH, to be Acting Head of the Department from 1 October 1998 to 31 March 1999.
Spanish and Portuguese. The General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Modern and Medieval Languages, have appointed Dr A. J. Close, DAR, to be Head of the Department from 1 January 1999 to 30 April 1999.
Earth Sciences. Dr A. H. T. Shen reappointed from 25 March 1999 to 25 April 2001.
Engineering. Mr T. Holden, DAR, reappointed from 27 March 1999 for five years.
