Regulations for examinations

Examination in History for the degree of Master of Studies

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 545)

With effect from 1 September 2014

On the recommendation of the Faculty Board of History, and with the approval of the ICE Strategic Committee, the General Board have approved History as a subject for advanced study for the M.St. Degree as a two-year part-time course, with effect from 1 September 2014. Special regulations for the examination in the subject have been approved as follows:

History

1. The scheme of examination for the course of study in History for the degree of Master of Studies shall be as follows:

(a)four essays, each of up to 4,000 words in length on a topic approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of History;

(b)a thesis of between 16,000 and 20,000 words in length including footnotes and appendices, but excluding bibliography, on a subject approved by the Degree Committee.

2. At the discretion of the Examiners the examination shall include an oral examination in the thesis and on the general field of knowledge within which it falls.

3. The Examiners may recommend that the Degree Committee recommend to the Strategic Committee of the Institute of Continuing Education award of a Postgraduate Certificate to candidates who have satisfactorily completed requirements specified in 1(a), and to candidates who have not completed, or fail to reach the standard, in the thesis.
