Research Associate in Medieval Francophone Literary Culture in the Department of French

Vacancy number: GK07908. Salary: £27,319–£32,620 (limit of tenure applies).

Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate on the AHRC-funded project ‘Medieval Francophone literary culture outside France’ to begin on 1 October 2011 and extend to 30 September 2014 (subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period of six months). The Principal Investigator is Professor Simon Gaunt (King’s College London) and the Co-Investigators will be Dr Bill Burgwinkle (Cambridge), Dr Jane Gilbert (University College London), and Paul Vetch (King’s College London). The successful applicant must have completed a Ph.D. Degree and have specialized in Old French literature, Romance philology, or Medieval Studies (provided research-level competence in Old French can be demonstrated). He or she will have a strong profile, both in terms of research and publications, and the promise of making an outstanding contribution to the project. The successful applicant will have native or excellent non-native command of French and English, and be competent in at least one other major European language (ideally Italian, German, Dutch, or Catalan).

Completed applications, including a CHRIS/6 form, a cover letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, an outline (about 1,000 words) of proposed research in contribution to the project ‘Medieval Francophone literary culture outside France’, a list of publications, and the names and addresses of two referees who are familiar with the applicant’s work in the relevant field, should be sent to the Secretary of the Appointments Committee, Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages, Sidgwick Avenue, Cambridge, CB3 9DA (email lb358@cam.ac.uk), by 4 p.m. on 18 April 2011.
