UNIVERSITY LECTURERS

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for an initial period of three or five years, with reappointment thereafter subject to satisfactory performance. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £23,296 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £35,950.

University Lecturer in the Faculty of Education

The Faculty of Education aims to strengthen Cambridge's national and international reputation as a leading centre for study and research in education and as a significant contributor to improving educational practice in partnership with schools, colleges, and other educational agencies. It is currently seeking an experienced lecturer to take a leading role in the teaching and co-ordination of graduate level courses in educational research methods.

Candidates should be active educational researchers able to demonstrate successful experience in both teacher development and improving educational practice, and the ability to apply this experience in innovative research and evaluation projects. The post-holder will take a major responsibility for higher degree work but will also be expected to contribute to other aspects of Faculty teaching such as continuing professional development, undergraduate, or P.G.C.E. courses.

University Lecturer in the Department of Experimental Psychology

Applications are invited for a University Lecturer in the Department of Experimental Psychology to take up appointment as soon as possible after 1 January 2004. The appointee will be required to teach in the areas of psychometrics and statistics. Research interests in one or more of psychometrics (including personality) and its interface with cognition, decision-making, social and emotional aspects of cognition, or behavioural genetics would be especially welcome.

Two University Lecturers in the Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law is seeking appropriately qualified individuals for appointment to two University Lectureships in Law from 1 January 2004, or as agreed. In respect of one post preference may be given to candidates whose interests lie predominantly in the field of Commercial Law. The other post is without preference. Those appointed will teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level, conduct and supervise research, and participate in the general work of the Faculty. University Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology

Applications are invited for a University Lectureship in the Department of Pharmacology, to take up appointment from 1 October 2003 or soon thereafter. The Department welcomes applications from candidates with research interests in all areas of relevance to pharmacology and is particularly interested in candidates working in the areas of cell biology and neurobiology.

Vacancies in the Corporate Liaison Office

Assistant Registrary (Business Development Manager). The post-holder will focus primarily in the engineering/physical sciences field. Salary will be on a scale from £23,296 to £35,950.

Assistant Registrary (Business Development Manager). The post-holder will focus primarily on interdisciplinary projects and associated large-scale industrial relationships. Salary will be on a scale from £23,296 to £35,950.

Assistant Registrary/Senior Assistant Registrary (Operations/Business Manager). The post-holder will look after the Office's business processes, including the management of contractual agreements. Salary will be on a scale from £25,451 to £35,950, with a possibility, for a truly exceptional candidate, of a salary up to £41,386.

Post-holders will need to be energetic professionals with the ability, experience, and credibility to work at the interface between academic and business worlds. Working style must be clear, structured, diplomatic, and sensitive. Post-holders will need to provide evidence of practical achievement in complex working environments and will hold an honours degree and possibly a higher degree. The positions are until the retiring age subject to a probationary period, and are pensionable.

Assistant Registrary in the Press and Publications Office of the University Offices

The University's Press and Publications Office is seeking a Head of Press Office, at Assistant Registrary level, to lead a team of Press Officers and administrative staff.

In addition to handling a wide range of news stories and public relations activities on behalf of the University, the post-holder will be able to think strategically about communications issues. The post-holder is likely to be a graduate, with fast and creative writing skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. He/she will have management experience, preferably in a press office, and will be used to dealing with press issues and acting as a spokesperson for a high-profile organization. The pensionable scale of stipends for an Assistant Registrary is £23,296 to £35,950 a year.

Temporary Lectureship in the Institute of Astronomy

Applications are invited for the post of Temporary Lecturer at the Institute of Astronomy for the fixed-term period of 1 October 2003 to 30 September 2006. Applicants will be expected to contribute towards the Institute's undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes, and to undertake research in a field within the remit of the Institute's activities.

Research Assistant in the Dharam Hinduja Institute of Indic Research (DHIIR) within the Faculty of Divinity

The Faculty of Divinity seeks a Research Assistant for the 'Modern Yoga' section of the DHIIR's Indic Health and Medicine Research Programme. The successful candidate will also collaborate in organizing and running two international events on the modernization of Ayurveda, and help in the day-to-day running of the office.

The post is available from 1 August 2003 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until 31 July 2004. Salary will be in the range of £18,265 to £20,311 a year.

Applicants must have or be about to complete a Ph.D. Degree in a relevant discipline and/or have proven experience of research in the Humanities and a knowledge of modern and classical trends in yoga. They should also have some knowledge of modern (i.e. nineteenth century onwards) Western and South Asian history and thought. Computer literacy and administrative experience are also necessary.

Teaching Assistants in the Department of Engineering

Applications are invited for part-time posts as Teaching Assistants within the Department of Engineering. Those appointed will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of the Department's undergraduate programme in experimental engineering. Teaching duties will include marking student experimental and project reports and assisting in the development of new teaching exercises as well as instructing and supervising undergraduate practical and laboratory classes.

Applications are invited from recent graduates or others suitably qualified in any of the major branches of engineering. Candidates should possess good communication and interpersonal skills. Some experience in teaching or laboratory demonstration would be an advantage although training will be given.

Appointment will be for ten months, starting on 1 September 2003. The salary will be £1,050 a month and is non-pensionable. Average hours of work will be 20 a week and it is a condition of appointment that Teaching Assistants be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays during the University teaching terms. It may be possible to combine this appointment with other teaching or research commitments provided that these do not conflict with the requirements of the post. Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in the Department of Land Economy

The Department is seeking to appoint a Research Associate in Rural Economics, but applications will be accepted from those with other related interests in the general areas of agricultural and environmental economics or policy analysis.

Applicants should have qualifications and experience in the field of rural economics in developed countries or related disciplines. The post is primarily aimed at those with the potential to develop a record of world class research and publication commensurate with the Department's international standing and aspirations. However, the appointment may be made at the Senior Research Associate level for those with a proven track record in research.

Appointment will be made at the Research Associate or Senior Research Associate level depending on experience and will be tenable initially for three years with the possibility of reappointment. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Research Associate is currently £18,265 to £27,339; for a Senior Research Associate the scale is from £23,296 to £33,679.
