Judge Institute of Management Studies

CENTRE FOR BUSINESS RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

The Centre for Business Research is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow to work on an ESRC funded project, entitled Commercializing science: entrepreneurial UK genomics firms in comparative perspective, commencing October 2001. The said project will evaluate the structure, strategy, and performance of genomics-based research companies in the United Kingdom.

Candidates should have both quantitative and qualitative skills, and experience in analysing patterns of industrial organization, research and development outputs, and related performance indicators within the biotechnology industry. Quantitative skills include experience in constructing descriptive statistics regarding firm structure and performance (e.g., experience in examining and constructing bibliometric evidence, event studies, and financial performance databases). Qualitative skills include interviewing experience with senior company executives, and a background of conducting intensive research within firms (i.e. managerial consulting experience). Candidates should have a good technical understanding of technology, ideally derived from training in engineering or applied sciences, and a Ph.D. in hand or nearing completion with a focus on innovation within science-based industry.
