European Legal Dialogues

Tue 27 June 2017

Wolfson College

'European Legal Dialogues' is a new initiative, which will be organised annually at Wolfson College in memory of Professor Sir David Williams, former President of the College, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge and former President of the European Scientific Council of the EPLO (European Public Law Organisation).

The title of this year’s event is ‘The contribution of Judges to the Development of Public Law’, a theme of first priority, and will be presided over by The Right Honourable Lord Justice John Laws.

The idea is to contribute in the homogenization of the understanding of Law in a pan-European and globalized world and to promote the idea that despite differences in local legal systems tainted mainly by history and procedural differences, the Law derives from the same principles, concepts and ideas.

The full title 'The Wolfson College Cambridge, Professor Sir David Williams, European Legal Dialogues' is a project directed by Professor David Feldman and Professor Spyridon Flogaitis. The Scientific Secretariat is under the responsibility of Professor George Gerapetritis.

The event will take the form of a three-hour discussion of Socratic-platonic character led and animated by the Right Honorable Lord Justice John Laws, between two distinguished lawyers, one common lawyer and one continental European lawyer, with the participation of the public where a few distinguished personalities from continental Europe and Great Britain or overseas, shall be invited to participate actively as discussants.

Starting at 3pm and concluding by 6pm, a formal dinner for registered participants will follow, as part of the College's formal dinner of the day.

The event itself is free. For information on the cost of the optional dinner and overnight accommodation if desired, please visit the Registration page of the Event's website: http://legaldialogues.eplo.int/index.php

Cost: Free
