What does effective AI regulation look like under a new Labour Government?

Thu 5 December 2024

Jesus College

There are indications that the Labour Government will approach AI regulation more actively than the previous government. But what level and type of regulation will achieve the delicate balance of safeguarding individuals and society against harms, without stifling innovation and AI-driven growth?

Considering this question will be a panel of AI experts, including:
• Lord Holmes of Richmond, sponsor of the Artificial Intelligence (Regulation) Private Member’s Bill
• Emily Campbell-Ratcliffe, Head of AI Assurance at DSIT
• Dr Laura Gilbert CBE, Director of Data Science at 10 Downing Street and Director of the Incubator for Artificial Intelligence (i.AI)

They will explore the evolving landscape of AI regulation in the UK and critically assess its impact on both safety and innovation.
