Fri 21 January 2022
West Road Concert Hall
ELFRIDA ANDRÉE Concert Overture in D
TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No.6 in B minor – 'Pathétique Symphony'
CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY ORCHESTRA
MARTIN ANDRÉ conductor
The Cambridge University Orchestra, under the baton of Martin André, perform Tchaikovsky's Sixth Symphony. This cornerstone work of the Romantic repertoire traverses the entire emotional spectrum, from characteristic Tchaikovskian melodies that burst with passion to complete despair, often attributed to the composer's late life depression. The concert opens with the Concert Overture in D by the Swedish composer, Elfrida Andrée (1841-1929), a rarely performed gem full of joy and luscious melodies.
Cost: £12, £5 students and under-18s
