John Wiltshire
ONLINE COURSE Introduction to watercolour: painting the garden landscape
Tue 10 August 2021 - Tue 17 August 2021
online
On this two part beginners’ course you will be introduced to watercolour techniques and make a painting of the Cambridge University Botanic Garden. You will be guided through the basics of watercolour technique to explore, experience and learn how it works with professional painter John Wiltshire. The course will include a kit of materials which will be posted to you before the course, which will allow you to try out professional quality paints and follow the demonstrations using a limited palette approach with just five selected colours. This system simplifies the technique and provides a great foundation from which you can develop. There will also be a resource of Botanic Garden landscape photographs provided from which you can work. Expect to surprise yourself with what you can achieve with the right materials, some practical tips and a boost to your confidence with this medium, which is often wrongly labelled intimidating.
John is an artist with over 30 years’ experience specialising in observational painting who, as an ex Cambridge resident spent plenty of time in the Botanic Garden. Twice a winner of the Royal Watercolour Society’s open exhibition his watercolour technique uses a restricted palette of five colours. John has been teaching painting and drawing skills since 1995 and also has Qualified Teacher Status.
