A lecture by Dr Susannah Gibson, Author of “The Spirit of Inquiry” 200 years
of the Cambridge Philosophical Society.
The fourth and final in a series of lectures organised by the Cambridge Philosophical Society in the Michaelmas Term 2019.
Abstract as follows: Today, Cambridge is recognised as a world-leading centre for science, but it wasn’t always so. Discover how science in Cambridge developed thanks to the work of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, and hear of the ground-breaking research presented at its meetings over the last 200 years, from Charles Darwin’s Beagle letters to Lawrence Bragg’s x-ray crystallography.
The lecture is free (no booking required) and open to all who are interested and will be an excellent opportunity to hear an eminent scientist.
Signed copies of the Society's book will be available for purchase at the special discounted price of £5.00 to those attending the lecture.
Entrance to the Bristol-Myers Squibb Lecture Theatre, is adjacent to the Scott Polar Research Institute on Lensfield Road
