Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes

Wed 29 January 2020

Wolfson College

Type 2 diabetes is a major cause of ill health and mortality. The latest estimate for 2019 is that 463 million people have diabetes and that by 2045 this number will have risen to 700 million. As 80% of people with diabetes live in low and middle income countries and the disorder principally affects people in their economically active years, this global epidemic needs to be seen not only as a clinical and public health problem, but rather as a societal challenge that impacts on sustainable development. The solutions to this growing public health crisis need to reflect this broader societal perspective
