Paul Seaward on "The History of the Rebellion" by Edward Hyde, Earl of Clarendon

Book Premiere 'On the Significance of Religion for Deliberative Democracy'

Wed 8 March 2023

Wesley House

This exciting volume pioneers the study of the complex relationship between religion and deliberative democracy. If religious organisations create meaningful and democratic spaces where concerns and divergent views are expressed and negotiated, conflicts are likely to be averted or at least managed, relationships strengthened, and the common good could be carried out collectively.

This book launch will have presentations by the authors and series editors and offer participants a chance to engage in discussions on the key themes.

Some questions to be considered are:
? Can religious groups play a positive role in strengthening our democracies?
? How can people voice their pains in their places of worship without feeling victimised?
? Does forgiveness produce peace or does it shut down our civic voices?
? How can charity empower people rather than give hand-outs?
