Intimate Engagements Concert: Alexander Karpeyev & Natalia Lomeiko
Sat 13 November 2021
Clare Hall
This concert puts in perspective two major works of the violin and piano literature. Beethoven’s Kreutzer Sonata needs little introduction as it is one of the most famous works of the composer. Nikolai Medtner, who died 70 years ago in London, and whose anniversary this concert celebrates, is gradually emerging as a major figure of twentieth century music. Once recognised by Rachmaninoff as the greatest composer of his time, he then fell into neglect, defended only by a handful of musicians who dared to confront the status quo. The younger generation has now embraced his music, and it is a pleasure to see talented musicians Natalia Lomeiko and Alexander Karpeyev tackling his 3rd Sonata Epica, one of his most ambitious works, in a concert that should be a fascinating opening to this year’s series.
Programme:
-Beethoven: Kreutzer Sonata
-Medtner: 3rd sonata Epica
