{ABSTRACT}
The way that a society manages land and housing expresses a great deal about the values it holds. Individual property ownership has been promoted globally as the solution to poverty for the last four decades. Despite evidence showing that it has forced up prices, concentrated wealth and power in fewer and fewer hands, and contributed to the 2008 financial crisis, it remains a cornerstone of economic policy in many countries.
The lecture will discuss international experience and options for ensuring that land and housing are managed more effectively in the public interest
