Cafe Sci Cambridge: So-called alternative medicine (SCAM)

Wed 14 November 2018

The Locker Café

SCAM is popular, not least because consumers are being misled about it. Professor Edzard Ernst will address some of the many misunderstandings in this area. He will discuss several examples of popular SCAMs and provide answers to crucial questions. Are the assumptions plausible? Is the therapy effective? Is it safe? Does it generate more good than harm? Come and hear more!

Professor Edzard Ernst qualified as a physician in Germany where he also completed his MD and PhD theses. He was Professor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) at Hannover Medical School (Germany) and Head of the PMR Department at the University of Vienna (Austria). He came to the University of Exeter in 1993 to establish the first Chair in Complementary Medicine. Since 2012, he is Emeritus Professor at the University of Exeter and now lives in Cambridge, UK.
