Online Talk – Ernest Gimson: Arts and Crafts Architect and Designer

Wed 10 March 2021

Kettle's Yard House and Gallery

Please join the Friends of Kettle’s Yard for an online evening event with Barley Roscoe, freelance curator and writer and formerly director of the Holburne Museum and Crafts Study Centre in Bath. Barley is the co-author of a recently published book on Ernest Gimson’s life and work.

She will guide us through Gimson’s life as a significant presence within the Arts and Crafts Movement. Originally encouraged by William Morris, Gimson’s career encompassed architecture and designs for furniture, metalwork, plaster decoration, embroidery and more.

Barley will introduce us to Stoneywell, a cottage designed by Gimson for his elder brother Sydney, who is also Barley’s great-grandfather. Stoneywell is furnished with many original pieces by Gimson and his craftsmen. Some Friends may remember our visit there in 2015.

There will be an opportunity for questions at the end of the talk.

Cost: £10 Friends, £12 non-Friends, £5 students, booking required.
