Frank Fenner – Hero or Villain?

Tue 9 May 2023

Ross Street Community Centre

“Fenner’s” is well known in Cambridge, even amongst those who know little about cricket, but being named after the University Cricket Ground is currently Frank Fenner’s only legacy. When he died in the late 19th century no obituary was published in local papers. Why?

Nigel Fenner is related to Frank Fenner, and has written a book on his life. Nigel arrived in Cambridge in 1981 to train as a teacher at the University, where he also secured his football Blue. Over the last 40 years Nigel has lived locally, including just off Mill Road (for a period of 5 years), and worked in education, mostly with vulnerable and challenging young people.

The talk will be preceded by a short Annual General Meeting. Doors open at 7pm, the AGM will be at 7:30pm and the talk will start at 7:45pm. All are welcome.

This event takes place at Ross Street Community Centre.

Note: Nigel will have copies of his book, Cambridge Sport: in Fenner’s Hands, for sale and signing at the talk. It is also available for sale on his website https://www.cambridgesportstours.co.uk/book-for-sale
