An archaelological dig at the Wellcome Genome Campus

Wellcome Genome Campus Open Saturday: Bioarchaeology

Sat 21 November 2020

Online - zoom

Between September and November, the Wellcome Genome Campus Open Saturday experience is going online. Each month we will bring you a variety of activities, topical conversations, virtual tours of the Campus and much more, all brought to you from the comfort of your home.

November's Open Saturday will be in collaboration with Oxford Archaeology East. Louise Loe, Head of Heritage Burial Service, will looking at the study of human remains from archaeological sites, specifically focusing on the finds from a dig that took place at the Wellcome Genome Campus.

Join Clemency Cooper for an interactive Rot or Not activity, where we’ll find out just how long different materials, including bones, can survive underground.

Petra Korlevic, a researcher at the Wellcome Genome Campus, will be discussing her previous work on DNA extraction from fossil bones and how that has paved the way for her current work on DNA extraction from historic fly collections.

There will also be the opportunity for virtual chat with all of our presenters.

Feel free to attend everything, or just drop in for one or two of the sessions.
