Directors Margaret Faultless and Nicholas Mulroy lead the Cambridge University Chamber Choir and Collegium Musicum in a specially-devised programme of music from Bach cantatas with readings and additional works by JC Bach and Schütz. The texts used by J.S Bach in his cantatas delve to the heart of what it means to be human: that in suffering and fear, light and love, we might comprehend our mortality and appreciate the infinite value of our own existence. This programme has drawn together some of Bach’s most profound music on these themes, alongside works by his great predecessors, Heinrich Schütz and J.C Bach. Readings from across the centuries have been selected to complement and illuminate richer reflection on the music’s eternal themes.
