The General Board, on the recommendation of the Management Committee for the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences and the Council of the School of the Physical Sciences, has agreed that the office of Deputy Director of the Institute should be replaced with an unestablished post (or posts), with the terms of the appointment and duties to be determined by the Management Committee, to provide greater flexibility.
The General Board has agreed to make the following changes to the General Board Regulations governing the Institute (Statutes and Ordinances, 2024, p. 665), to revise references to the Deputy Directorship.
(a) By amending the last sentence of Regulation 1 for the Scientific Steering Committee to read as follows:
The Scientific Director of the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences shall have the right to attend meetings if they have not been appointed as a member.
(b) By replacing the words ‘or Deputy Director’ from Regulation 5 for the Scientific Steering Committee with ‘or a senior member of the staff of the Institute’.
(c) By amending Regulation 1(b) for the Management Committee to read as follows:
(b) another senior member of the staff of the Institute, nominated by the Director;
(d) By amending Regulation 4 for the Management Committee to read as follows:
4. A person appointed by the Director shall serve as Secretary of the Committee.
(e) By replacing Regulations 3 and 4 for the Staff of the Institute with new Regulation 3, to read as follows:
3. There shall be a post of Deputy Director of the Institute, to be appointed by the Management Committee on such terms and with such duties as the Management Committee shall determine, which shall include the option to appoint more than one Deputy Director.
A reference to the office of Deputy Director of the Institute has also been removed from the General Board’s Notice providing a Schedule of offices whose holders may apply for study leave (reproduced in Statutes and Ordinances, 2024, p. 682).
