Graces

Graces to be submitted to the Regent House at a Congregation on 29 March 2025

The Council has sanctioned the submission of the following Graces to the Regent House at a Congregation to be held on 29 March 2025:

1. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon The Right Honourable Mary, Lady Arden of Heswall, Honorary Fellow of Girton College, sometime Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom and formerly Chair of the Law Commission, lawyer and judge.1

2. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Dame Katherine Grainger, Chair of UK Sport and future Chair of the British Olympic Association, athlete and sports ambassador.1

3. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Mr Michael Omari Owuo Jr, known as Stormzy, musician, philanthropist and change-maker.1

4. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Medical Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Professor Maria Leptin, Professor in the Institute of Genetics, University of Cologne, President of the European Research Council and formerly Director of the European Molecular Biology Organisation, developmental biologist and immunologist.1

5. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Sir Oliver Hart, Honorary and former Fellow of Churchill College, Honorary Fellow of King’s College, sometime University Lecturer in the Faculty of Economics and Politics, now Economics, Lewis P. and Linda L. Geyser University Professor, Harvard University, economist.1

6. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Sir Simon Russell Beale, Honorary Fellow of Gonville and Caius College, actor.1

7. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Professor Angela Davis, Distinguished Professor Emerita, University of California Santa Cruz, scholar in the humanities, philosopher, author and activist.1

8. That the title of the degree of Doctor of Music honoris causa be conferred under Statute A II 14 upon Sir John Rutter, Honorary Fellow of Clare College, composer and conductor.1
