Estates Committee terms of reference

16 September 2024

The Council and the General Board, on the recommendation of the Estates Committee, have approved changes to the Estates Committee’s terms of reference (Reporter, 6704, 2022–23, p. 728). The changes increase the number of Heads of School who serve on the Committee from two to three. The opportunity has also been taken to revise the description of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor who chairs the Committee.

Paragraphs 17(a) and (c) now read as follows:

[17.]   (a)   the Pro-Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for resources, as Chair;

(c)three Heads of School appointed by the General Board, one of whom shall be Head of the School of Arts and Humanities or of the Humanities and Social Sciences, one of whom shall be the Head of the School of the Physical Sciences or of Technology, and one of whom shall be the Head of the School of the Biological Sciences or of Clinical Medicine;

Car Parking Policy for 2025–26

In July the Council and the General Board approved a new Car Parking Policy for 2025–26. The new Policy will come into effect from June 2025 for permits for the 2025–26 academic year onwards.

The key changes to the Policy include a centralised allocation mechanism using new parking software (with an option to retain Departmental allocation); the introduction of an appeals process; amendments to the eligibility criteria; and the use of a point-based system to determine allocation based on a number of qualifying criteria. The new Policy will also introduce greater flexibility, with an option to apply for a permit for less than five days a week and for non-permit-holding staff to apply for occasional car park access.

Further information will be provided to institutions and staff later this term, to give as much notice as possible about the changes to the Policy.
