The Council submits the following Grace to the Regent House. This Grace, unless it is withdrawn or a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, 2023, p. 112), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 1 March 2024. Further information on requests for a ballot or the amendment of Graces is available to members of the Regent House on the Regent House Petitions site.§
1. That the George Pitt-Rivers Professorship of Archaeological Science (Statutes and Ordinances, 2023, p. 710) be retitled the Pitt-Rivers Professorship of Archaeological Science, and the related Fund be retitled accordingly.1
1The Council, on the recommendation of the General Board, the Council of the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty Board of Human, Social, and Political Science, and with the support of the Head of the Department of Archaeology, the Director of the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, the current holder of the Professorship and the donor’s family, is proposing this change to the naming of the Professorship to broaden its scope to honour the Pitt-Rivers family, notably the archaeologist General Augustus Pitt-Rivers.
